The Everyday Pen in Mulberry Red sits somewhere between a ballpoint and a rollerball. You get the free-flowing ink you'd expect from a fountain or rollerball pen, but with the simple click-and-go feel of a ballpoint.
It's made in Japan, where the rollerball was born, by a factory that has been turning out pens for over 70 years. Good hands to be in.
A needle-like 0.5mm tip draws an ultra fine line. People tend to ooh and ah the first time they try a needle-point, and with good reason. Instead of the conical tip on a typical rollerball, this one is pipe shaped, so you can see exactly where the 3mm length is heading. It's precise enough to run along a ruler. Pair that with smooth ink and handwriting feels very good indeed.
The factory also happens to know ink — they've been making it for over one hundred years. Ours is a soft, black, oil-based, low-viscosity ink with one of the deepest colour densities you'll find on the market, which means excellent coverage and very little reflection. Gliding across the page it feels soft and free, yet you keep more control than a rollerball or fountain pen gives you. Soft ink lays down dark, clear, precise lines — lovely for drawing, writing, scanning and copying alike.
The body is a natural cedar wood casing, so it feels about as light as a pencil. Six vibrant colour coatings are available, each finished with subtle gold accents. Did you know the push button at the end of a pen is called a 'knock' or 'knock button'? Ours is brass, matched with a brass taper, so the pen retracts and travels at the click of a button. Every pen is foil stamped with 'Papersmiths' in gold.
The Everyday Pen is refillable. You can purchase your refills here. Check out the other colours in our Everyday collection here.
It's easy! Twist the pointy, nib end of your pen — not the push button! It will loosen easily. Remove the spring and the existing refill. Slide your fresh refill in, removing the protective bobble on the tip. Slide the spring back in until you meet resistance. Place the pointy section back onto the end of the pen and screw until secure. Hey presto, you're ready to roll!
