A Sorrel Red cover wraps this A5 notebook, and every page inside is ruled at 236. Turn to the front and a printed bookplate is waiting for a name, a prize note or your contact details — which is how a misplaced notebook finds its way home.
Two contents pages start things off, and each page after that is numbered. Watch those numbers as you work through: they change colour gradually, a spectrum in slow motion.
Paper is 100gsm — smooth, wood free, fountain pen friendly, with minimal show through. Try a highlighter, rollerball, marker, brush pen, ballpoint, ink pen, graphite or coloured pencil and you'll get both sides of the sheet. We put a long list of markers through it (Tombow Dual Brush, Twin Tone and Fudenosuke, Faber-Castell Pitt, Pentel Sign and brush pens, over 20 black brush pens, various drawing pens) and the pages held up. Anything alcohol based, such as the Windsor and Newton Promarker, bleeds through more easily.
Binding is lay flat, so the spine isn't forced when you open it: the inner pages sit backlined inside the spine, free to move, and the cover attaches at front and rear hinges only.
Look closely at the cover. A blind embossed Papersmiths mark on the back, a thumb print sized monogram on the front.
